A wide input low quiescent current without operational amplifier bandgap reference circuit

The output voltage of traditional first-order temperature-compensated bandgap reference (BGR) fluctuates widely with temperature, which resulting in inaccurate supply voltages. This paper presents an improved high-performance bandgap voltage reference with wide input voltage range and low quiescent current. The circuit adopts a negative feedback loop instead of an operational amplifier, thereby reducing the influence caused by the operational amplifier. A wide range input (4~35 V) is achieved with a pre-bias circuit and the curvature compensation is realized by using the negative temperature characteristics of the triode and the characteristics of the MOS transistor working in the linear region The proposed BGR is implemented in a 0.18 ${\mu}$ m BCD CMOS process. The simulation results show that the designed bandgap reference has an output voltage of 1.205 V with the temperature coefficient of $3.83 \times 10 -6/^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$ over the temperature range of −55°C to 125°C, and it achieves the PSRR of about −96 dB in the low frequency band with a current consumption of only 23 $\mu$A at 4.4 V power supply.
