Lviv Roots of Polish Higher Educational Institutions in Electrical Engineering

This paper describes some attempts at founding Polish technical universities in the 19^th century on the Polish territory annexed by other countries, as the factors which finally led to the establishment of the technical university in Lviv. It was, a this time, the only technical university, in which instructions were (since 1871) in Polish. Described is the history of the Subfaculty of Electrotechnics at this university and its development since the foundation in 1911. The Subfaculty of Electrotechnics during the Second Polish Republic (1918–1939), will also be presented, as well as the period of World War II and the legacy of electrical engineering from Lviv Polytechnic in Poland after World War II.
