Lora Communication Design and Performance Test (Case Study: Air Quality Monitoring System)

The development of wireless technology, such as LoRa, has been very rapid recently, and engineers and academics introduced this technology through various related research. This study aims to find the optimal LoRa technology design by analyzing the SF parameters and optimal LoRa transmission distance in sending air quality data from various sensors such as MQ04, MQ07, and dust sensors. We varied the SF of SF7-SF12, and the transmission distance varied at 100 m intervals to achieve the longest distance in the specified environment. The resulting communication design was obtained using the RSSI, SNR, and Packet loss values analysis for each SF and distance interval. The results show that the longest data transmission distance under NLoS conditions is 1.6 km at SF 12, but this scheme causes very high packet loss. Meanwhile, regarding SNR and packet loss, SF 8 has higher quality than other SF. Therefore, the findings of this study provide valuable guidance for designing and implementing LoRa-based communication systems in air quality monitoring applications. Lora technology users can use the results of this research as a reference in LoRa configuration to obtain more optimal transmission.
