Review of South Africa's Standard Grid-Code Requirements for DG Renewables

Load shedding has become an extremely critical problem in South Africa as a direct result of the country's escalating energy demand. When it comes to lowering overall electricity usage, RPPs, also known as renewable energy power producers, are a viable alternative to thermal power plants. The rate of population growth is the primary contributor to the increase in energy consumption that has been seen. As a means of mitigating the effects of climate change caused by thermal power plants, nations around the world are looking into alternative technologies for the production of electricity, like as RPPs. Independent power producers (IPPs) were granted permission in the past to detach themselves from the grid in the event that the grid experienced a catastrophic collapse. This was done to prevent the plant from suffering severe damage. However, in today's world, IPPs are required to maintain their connections in the event of a problem in order to provide support and recovery to the system. The primary purpose of this study is to clarify the numerous technical grid-code requirements for RPPs, in addition to the problems and limits that come along with them, in order to guarantee the efficient and risk-free operation of the system.
