A Variable Linear Coefficient Battery Cost Function Control for Revenue Maximization of a Grid Tied-Solar-BES Power Generation System

This research work presents a variable linear coefficient battery cost function control for the battery energy storage (BES), connected to a solar photovoltaic (SPV) array interfaced grid-tied power generation system (PGS), to maximize the revenue earned. The control also allows the PGS operator to operate it in different modes to meet the generation commitment and to reduce the deviation settlement mechanism (DSM) penalty charges during shortfall in the SPV array power generation. The power conversion system (PCS) is controlled using a comb fifth order generalized integrator with frequency locked loop (CFGI-FLL) based control to provide harmonics and DC elimination and to supply the reactive power requirement of the PGS. The full day operation of the PGS with the presented control is demonstrated using simulated results. The control also considers the BES constraints like state of charge limits and its rated power limits, and the effect of varying grid rates on the system operation.
