Maximizing Year-Around Energy Availability byAdaptive Component Changes in Microgrid

Many parts of the world are facing hunger, which has killed hundreds in Ethiopia, in the Horn of Africa. Also, due to climate change, the tremendous suffering of intense heat waves has been witnessed compared to the past decades. Thus, the climate change crises have caused extreme health impacts such as malnutrition and air pollution. The hybrid renewable energy microgrid is a viable option to mitigate this impact. This paper investigates the techno-economic optimization model analysis for two different locations and is simulated in System Advisor Model (SAM), NREL software. Two sites are considered PV-Battery storage in case 1 and Solar PV stand-alone in case 2, respectively. The analysis results show that location 1 shows a 25.75% increase in annual energy production compared to location 2 in case 1. Also, location 1 shows a 25.84% increase in annual energy production compared to location 2 in case 2. Thus, location 1 offers a favorable environment for installing a renewable energy microgrid system to maximize annual energy production.
