Penrose Tesselation Strategy for Limited Field of View Array Optimization

A preliminary investigation of the possibility to exploit the Penrose tessellation for the partitioning of a periodic phased array into irregular subarrays to scan over limited fields of view (LFOV) is addressed. The aim of this work is to highlight the radiation tradeoffs between different conflicting objectives in a multiobjective electromagnetic problem. The results showed that the clustered array architectures based on Penrose tessellation ensure a remarkable reduction of the transmit/receive modules (TRMs) without harming the scan angle range and peak sidelobe level (PSLL) with respect to the fully populated array (FPA) solution.
