Design Methodology of Inductive Power Links for Implantable Medical Devices Applications

Power Links (IPL) have been extensively researched in recent decades to enhance and optimize Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) for implantable medical device (IMD) applications, providing a safe alternative to conventional batteries. Significant advancements in manufacturing have enabled wireless implantable devices to overcome size limitations that were previously a challenge. This paper aims to present a literature review of the works conducted by researchers in wireless inductive power transmission for powering Implantable Medical Devices (IMDs). The paper will discuss the design methodology, techniques, challenges, and limitations related to this technology. In addition, the paper will comprehensively examine and analyze performance-related parameters, including operating distance, Power Transmission Efficiency (PTE), and volume. This analysis will provide a comparison that can serve as a valuable resource for researchers in this field.
