Large-scale energy storage system structure design and Thermal Flow Field Optimization-A case study

Batteries are the most important components of an energy storage system. However, the charging and discharging processes will cause the battery cells to generate a lot of heat, which leads to an increase in the temperature of the battery cells. Traditional built-in cooling fans can dissipate heat to a certain extent, but they are prone to temperature buildup and cause excessive internal temperature differences. How to dissipate heat from lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) in large-scale energy storage systems is a focus of current research. Therefore, in this paper, an internal circulation system is proposed to change the heat flow field distribution inside the energy storage cabinet from the perspective of structural optimization in order to improve the heat transfer. The evaluation results show that the maximum temperature and the maximum temperature difference inside the energy storage system are significantly reduced with the use of internal circulation.
