Rug Classification with YOLOv5: Handmade vs Machine-Made

A rug is a woven fabric that is used to cover a part of the floor. They warm up a room while adding a decorative touch. There are two types of rugs: handcrafted and manufactured. Due to the precise nature of manufacturing process, rugs manufactured by hand are more expensive than rugs made by machines. As it is difficult for a person to spot the difference between these types of rugs, there have been several cases of consumers being duped into purchasing machine-made rugs that were falsely represented as being handmade. Despite the breakthroughs in object detection, no work has been done to distinguish between handmade and machine-made rugs. Therefore, using YOLOv5 (fifth version of You Only Look Once), we propose a deep learning model that can distinguish between handmade and machine-made rugs. Our proposed model can save customers money while also preventing future rug scams. Experimental results demonstrated feasible performance by our proposed model.
