A Method for Measuring Saturated B-H Curves of Silicon Steel Sheets

A method for measuring saturated B-H Curves of silicon steel sheets (SSTs) is proposed in this paper, which is easy to be implemented with common instruments. By processing a small portion of the toroidal ring sample to be particularly narrow, the flux density in this part can reach to a particular high value without using high excitation current. The basic principle and implementation process are presented. Considering that the actual magnetic circuit area is increased due to insulation work, relevant corrections have been made in data processing to consider the magnetic flux leakage. Meanwhile, the influence of laser cutting on the magnetic properties of SST is another non-ideal factor which affects measured B-H curves at saturation, and a simple modification method is introduced. The influence of B-H curves with different saturated portions on the FEA results of interior permanent magnet synchronous machines are discussed.
