Design of Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) and Automatic Main Failure (AMF) Based on Outseal

The availability of electrical energy has become vital for people's lives today. However, as a provider of electrical energy, the State Electricity Company (PLN) has limitations in meeting electrical energy needs. This research designs Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) and Automatic Main Failure (AMF) systems using outseal PLC. ATS - AMF is a device that automatically controls the transfer of the primary electrical energy source to the backup electrical energy source. In order to test the performance of the ATS-AMF system, switching tests were conducted to observe the switching time between the PLN main supply, backup supply, and generator set. The test results showed different variations in switching time. When switching from PLN to the backup supply, the average switching time is about 4,773 seconds. When returning from the backup source to PLN, the average switching time is about 4,744 seconds. Meanwhile, when switching from the backup source to the generator set, the average switching time reaches 8,295 seconds. Moreover, when switching back from the generator set to PLN, the average switching time is about 4,732 seconds. The test results show that the moving time is faster than specified; this is due to errors in using the measuring instrument. This causes inaccuracies in the measurement process. Thus, it can be said that the ATS-AMF system is able to effectively transfer supply from the main electrical energy source to the backup electrical energy source.
