Effective Solar-Powered EV-Charging System with Enhanced Voltage Regulation

The development of alternative technologies such as solar-powered electric vehicles (EVs) is crucial due to the worsening environmental quality caused by pollution and the depletion of fossil fuels. Solar-powered EVs offer a non-polluting and quiet transportation solution that is highly efficient and emits no emissions. However, the fluctuating solar irradiance poses challenges for voltage regulation and charging efficiency in PV-based charging systems. To address these issues, a proposed system utilizes a SEPIC converter with voltage boost and step-down features, along with closed-loop feedback using a PI controller. This technology enhances the effectiveness of charging, battery longevity, and overall battery health. Under varied irradiance circumstances, the system’s performance is validated using both MATLAB/Simulink simulation and hardware implementation.
