Household Digital Twin to Support Energy Management and Smart Appliance Research

Efficient energy transition requires sophisticated energy management algorithms. Their reliable evaluation is not a trivial task, mainly due to investment and user participation reasons. One of the solutions to overcome this issue is to apply simulation and digital twin approaches. This paper presents the details and evaluation of our approach for modeling users and their devices and implementing real-time, scalable, comprehensive and detailed evaluation of energy management algorithms and the effects of using smart appliance features in energy grids. This flexible approach allows defining the test scenarios with the required level of interaction and detail. It supports experimenting with a diversity of user and device configurations, hardly possible in real deployments, while delivering reliable and reproducible testing environment.
