IoT-Based Automatic Room Lighting System

This study addresses the imperative of sustainable development by focusing on efficient electricity utilization, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goal 7. The goal seeks universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and contemporary energy sources for all individuals. An investigation into automated home lighting systems is conducted, aiming to achieve energy efficiency. Control of the lighting system is vested in a central controller, the NodeMCU, equipped with Wi-Fi, and connected to two ultrasonic sensors and a light-dependent resistor (LDR). Illumination is initiated exclusively under conditions of darkness with the presence of occupants. This technology facilitates remote lighting control via a mobile phone and allows for energy conservation during prolonged absences. The mobile application offers versatile functionalities, allowing users to switch between manual and automatic lighting control modes while monitoring real-time lighting status and occupancy count. In manual mode, users can directly adjust lighting regardless of conditions and reset the occupancy counter when needed. These features empower users to enhance energy efficiency and safety within their spaces. Besides energy conservation and domestic safety, the study's implications extend to user convenience, and the integration of technology into sustainable and secure home environments, all of which have potential far-reaching benefits for homeowners and society at large.
