Hybrid Portable Power Station with Several Sources of Energy for Emergencies

After the devastation caused by recent extreme events that impact Puerto Rico (PR), there has been a strong adoption of renewable energy sources (RES) due to the persistent power outages. In this paper, the design, built, and testing of a hybrid portable power station to supply power of residential critical loads is presented. The system consists of three sources of renewable generation (solar, wind, and mechanical bike) and batteries for storage purpose. The proposed system was designed to supply approximately 6KWh/day with 24 hours of autonomy. Results demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed system, particularly in isolated communities of PR.
