The effects of vibratile takeover request is explored by comparing across vibratile alert locations

: (1) seat back (2) seat pan (3) seat belt (4) wristband. In order to assess the effects, the parameters are: (i) crash count (ii) reaction time (iii) physical comfort (iv) mental workload. To simulate non-driving-related-tasks on experiment, participants were requested to watch their favorite video. By engaging in an enjoyable activity, participants were expected to be engaged and occupied, enabling monitor participants’ mental workload and level of distress in a more naturalistic setting. The potential for a state of discomfort to enhance a response triggered by surprise is apparent, as higher levels of comfort or discomfort are correlated with faster reaction times. Conversely, more subtle levels of comfort and discomfort are associated with comparatively slower responses. This proposes that a state of discomfort could play a role in eliciting an unforeseen reaction, potentially enhancing the driver’s readiness for responding to takeover requests.
