Comparative Analysis of Hashing Standards

In the paper, the state hashing standard of Ukraine "Kupyna" DSTU 7564:2014 is compared to the widely used SHA256/512 and MD5 standards. For this goal, the authors developed a software complex in the C and C# programming languages. A comparative analysis of DSTU 7564:2014, SHA 256/512, and MD5 hashing functions was performed according to the following criteria: resistance to collisions, detection of the average Hamming distance in avalanche effect testing, algorithm speed. The analysis for collisions using the "birthdays" paradox showed that Kupyna is more effective for short messages, and MD5 and SHA256 are more stable for larger message sizes. According to the results of testing for the avalanche effect, each hashing function meets the condition that the average Hamming distance should be equal to 1/2 of the hash length.
