Comparative Study of the Photoelectric and Thermal Performance Between Phosphor-Converted and Phosphor-Free Golden Light LED

The traditional golden light light-emitting diode (LED) is mainly realized by phosphor conversion technology (PC-LED), which is prone to problems such as light decay and color temperature drift. However, the phosphor-free golden light LED (PF-LED) has attracted wide attention because of its no phosphor and no blue technical characteristics. We have prepared golden light LEDs with different technical routes, among which PC-LEDs are packaged with aluminum nitride (AlN) ceramic materials (PC1-LED) and epoxy resin materials (PC2-LED). This work tested and simulated the photoelectric and thermal performance of these three golden light LEDs, and all the values of experiment, simulation, and theoretical calculation are in good agreement. The results show that the PF-LED has better optical properties than the PC-LED. At a current density of 20 A/cm2, the luminous efficiencies of PC1-LED, PC2-LED, and PF-LED are 126.46, 136.47, and 157.67 Lm/W, respectively. The thermal resistance of PF-LED device is relatively low, with a value of 1.49 °C/W. Under different temperature and driving current conditions, the photoelectric performance of the PF-LED is better than that of the PC-LED. Besides, samples were subjected to aging tests, and the result revealed that the PF-LED exhibits a better stability performance. These results have great influence on the design and development of future golden light LEDs.
