Configurable, isolated voltage logging apparatus for any cell, module or fuel cell

Voltage monitoring is essential for most electrochemical cells and modules. Many designs rely on methods that create imbalance such as potential divider ladders, or specialised integrated circuits for lithium cells that rely on connection to every cell. However, these systems do not always work with lower voltage cells such as lithium titanate, or lead acid, they also do not work if only certain cells or modules in a string are desired to be monitored, nor when multiple cells are internally connected in the form of a module. Candidates for battery energy storage including lithium titanate and lithium iron phosphate modules are available with nominal voltages of 12V and 24V, and lead acid modules are available in 6V, 8V, 12V and 24V configurations. This paper describes a flexible, configurable, high accuracy and precision voltage monitor with eight channels per board, that can be used for research grade balance monitoring experiments or general purpose use, expandable to add balancing capability. The boards can be daisy chained to monitor and log 1032 channels with up to 1000V between any of the channels. Using this circuit, any battery or fuel cell module, can be monitored with high precision without causing imbalance.
