The effect of water/fuel ratio on heat transfer of supercritical RP-3 with catalytic steam reforming reactions

Regenerative cooling using endothermic hydrocarbon fuel in mini-channel plays an important role in thermal protection of scramjet engine. In order to further increase the heat transfer efficiency and suppress coke formation, catalytic steam reforming reaction of China aviation kerosene No .3 RP-3 with secondary injection of water is studied. The effect of water in the main inlet on heat transfer characteristics of RP-3 is investigated under different water/fuel ratio (σ), pressure and wall temperature . The results show that with the increase of σ, both the temperature of the flow field and the coke deposition decrease significantly. While the heat transfer coefficient (HTC) increases and the effect of secondary water injection can be gradually strengthened. Compared to σ=10%, when σ is 50% coke deposition decreases by 51.9%, and HTC increases by as much 69.8%. Moreover, it is notable that the decreasing trend of coke content decreases with the increase of σ. There is li mited effect of increase pressure on suppressing coke deposition and enhancing HTC. Compared to low σ, high σ can suppress the coke deposition effectively under high wall temperature condition.
