Method of Determining the Coordinates of Airborne Objects Using a Passive Bistatic Radar System Based on Signals from a Secondary Radar System

A method of controlling secondary radar systems using a remote control station has been investigated. The analysis of the transmitted and received signals at this station is performed to determine the location of aircraft. The dependence of the accuracy of determining coordinates by Time Sum of Arrival (TSoA) and Angle of Arrival (AoA) method on the error magnitude in determining the necessary coordinate-informative parameters (times of receiving transmitted and received signals, rotation period of interrogator) from secondary radar system signals was studied. The principle of operation of the system was described, sources of errors that affect the accuracy of control system operation were identified, and an acceptable level for these errors to achieve the required precision was established. The degree to which each type of error considered affects performance results was also determined. Recommendations for placing remote control stations to achieve maximum possible accuracy were proposed.
