Performance Analysis of DCO-OFDM, ACO-OFDM and ADO-OFDM Under the Influence of Optical Effects

This article discusses methods of transmitting OFDM signals, such as DC biased optical OFDM (DCO-OFDM), asymmetrically clipped optical OFDM (ACO-OFDM) and asymmetrically clipped DC biased optical OFDM (ADO-OFDM), in a fiber-optic communication system with intensity modulation and direct detection (IMDD). A simulation model of data transmission over an optical channel has been developed in MATLAB to estimate the noise immunity in various cases. The optimal parameters minimising the bit error rate (BER) for DCO-OFDM and ADO-OFDM under relative intensity noise (RIN) and chromatic dispersion (CD) conditions have been determined. Based on the results, the effectiveness of the investigated methods of generating OFDM signals for systems with IMDD has been evaluated.
