UTMC demonstrators: results so far

Fundamentally, UTMC systems are conceived as modular, open systems that incorporate and build on the functionalities of existing signal control and other traffic management systems such as urban traffic control (UTC) systems, car park management, environmental monitoring and access control. Therefore, UTMC can be viewed as the glue that will wrap around existing applications, and bind in new ones to create an integrated whole. A UTMC system might build on an existing application such as UTC, incorporate new UTMC standard applications, for example a VMS or car park management module, and interface with related, external systems like the traffic control centre or parking management systems operated by other organisations. The paper reports on the results from experimental systems in use in Preston, Reading, Stratford and York.
