Detecting black hole attacks in MANET using baiting and timer technique with AODV protocol

MANET (Mobile Ad hoc Network) is sensitive to attacks due to the lack of infrastructure and central control that influences on the adaptation of the security solutions of this network. The black hole is an active attack that can be inserted into the routing process to destroy the functioning of ad hoc networks. In this work, we choose the AODV protocol whose route requires two types of control packets: route request (RREQ) and route response (RREP). Therefore, the choice of this protocol is justified by the fact that reactive routing protocols work better than proactive protocols because they minimize control traffic. Indeed, the detection of the black hole attack is done by modifying the AODV routing protocol with the use of the baiting and timer technique (BTT) which is based on sending the fake address and checking it in the list of neighbors. The test of evaluation metrics such as packet delivery rate (PDR), number of packet loss and throughput are done by NS3 environment that provides better results compared to other simulators.
