Communication between Energy Meters and PLC Based on Modbus Protocol

The widespread use of tools and machines in the workplace as a result of industrialization has led to steady increase in their quantity and complexity. PLC are used in industrial automation to improve system performance and reliability while reducing the necessity for human operators and minimizing the risk of human mistake. There are several different standards and specialized automation protocols that can be used to establish communication between PLC and multiple devices, most notably Modbus. This paper emphasis on a monitoring the data of Energy meters from PLC by using RS485 MODBUS communication by taking an application based remote monitoring system for electricity theft detection. An alert will be displayed on the HMI if there has been any theft in the distribution line, indicating the set parameters has been deviated. Additionally, the Node-Red platform will keep track of the data. The PLC testing of proposed system achieved the desired result.
