FPGA Based Secure Channel Design in Power Distribution Systems

The traditional security measures such as physical security, firewalls, and encryption are no longer adequate against advanced hacking techniques. To address these issues, this paper proposes the use of Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA) algorithms alongside Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) to ensure the confiden-tiality, integrity, and authenticity of transmitted data to secure the Power Distribution System (PDS) with Zynq 7000 FPGA (xc7z020clg484-1) using Xilinx Vivado. By leveraging FPGA-based implementation, the proposed solution offers various ben-efits such as high-speed data processing, low power consumption, and reconfigurability, making it well-suited for power distribution systems.
