Precision Time Protocol Profile for Datacenter Applications

This paper describes the OCP-TAP Datacenter PTP Profile, developed for large-scale, high-performance datacenter-based applications. The paper first covers datacenter network topology and then illustrates the specific requirements for this industry vertical via the distributed database system use case. Building upon those requirements, the paper then covers the Datacenter PTP Profile and the main attributes to enable a reliable time distribution and synchronization service across the infrastructure of a datacenter network. Finally, related workstreams are discussed ahead of the conclusion.
