A novel Automotive Palmtree Antenna for 5G inside Scarabeus Ring Antennas for Satellite Reception

The increasing number of antennas and antenna systems in modern vehicles lead to a very compact and difficult design environment. For best use of the given mounting volume with a flat design, for example within a flat shark fin antenna cover, intertwined antennas are investigated. Therefore, in this paper we introduce a novel Palmtree antenna for 5G applications which can be integrated into a Scarabeus ring antenna for satellite applications such as GNSS and SDARS. With this novel integrated design of the Palmtree antenna, the satellite antenna keeps or even improves its performance. Further, due to the maximum possible dimension of the Palmtree antenna to any given coverage, a relatively high gain is achieved especially in the low-band of the 5G frequency range between 617MHz and 960 MHz.
