A Building Wireless Performance Evaluation Scheme in Terms of Root-Mean-Square Delay Spread for Buildings with Complex Structures

With the explosive indoor wireless traffic, the building's interior structure is becoming the bottleneck of indoor wireless system performance. Quantitatively expressing how a building's interior structure impacts wireless performance is vital for improving indoor wireless performance in the future. The delay spread (DS) is a wireless performance indicator affected by building structures, which causes the inter-symbol-interference to affect wireless systems' reliability and capacity. Based on previous works, this paper extends the building wireless performance (BWP) evaluation of the root-mean-square (RMS) DS to the evaluation for complex building structures with the evaluation metric DS gain. This paper proposes mathematical models for statistical analysis of the building under design (BUD) and the same-sized open space. Furthermore, this paper presents a fitting method for batch evaluation of buildings with irregular room shapes. The accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed scheme for the RMS-DS are verified in a complex building design. With the proposed scheme's help, architects can quickly quantify the impact of their flexible architectural designs on the RMS-DS at the designing stage, and finally, indoor wireless performance can be further improved from the architectural design perspective.
