Low-RCS Banyan Tree Antenna Array With Reconfigurable Scattering Patterns

A low-RCS Banyan Tree antenna (BTA) array featuring reconfigurable scattering performance is presented in this paper. The antenna unit is composed of a BTA element and a reconfigurable metasurface that is integrated with a p-i-n diode, enabling broadband reflection phase change. Importantly, changes in the diodes do not impact the radiation performance of the proposed antenna array. As a result, this design can achieve adjustable scattering characteristics with excellent radiation performance. With an operational frequency range of 8 to 12 GHz, the antenna array can scan up to 60 degrees and yields a significant reduction in RCS within this frequency range.
