Generation of OAM Beam Using Single-Fed On-Chip Octagonal Patch Antenna with Dielectric Resonator

A single-fed on-chip octagonal patch antenna with orbital angular momentum (OAM) beam is proposed in this letter. This antenna is based on 65nm CMOS technology. A dielectric resonator (DR) is loaded on the top of the patch to guide the radiated beam. To generate the OAM wave, characteristic mode theory (CMT) is applied to simulate the degenerate modes of the octagonal patch, and the 8 edges of the patch are analyzed to introduce a π/4 phase difference to these two modes. Finally, the simulation results demonstrate that a l =− 1 mode OAM beam can be formed and a maximum gain of 3.32dBi can be obtained both at 274.75GHz. The circular polarization also performs well.
