Analysis of Multi-Filter EMI Mitigation for Weight and Volume Optimization

All-electric aircraft (AEA) require an increased number of power converters, making it potentially more susceptible to electromagnetic interference (EMI). This paper explores the volume optimization of passive EMI filters for a multi-converter system. It explores the distribution of filtering demand between localized and centralized solutions. The bulkiest filtering elements are directed to localized filters. While smaller components are centralized. This leads to a reduction in localized volume, as space availability is limited in aerospace applications, specially in smaller subsystems. The performance of each solution is presented and compared.
