A Digital Oscilloscope Based Hardware Implementation Approach for Universal Memristor Emulators

Prior to nanoscale memristors are commercially viable, accurately verifying the characteristics of memristors in hardware is one of the effective approaches to rapidly expanding their engineering by applications. Nevertheless, the commonly used equivalent circuit based on commercial devices has issues: large errors, inefficiency, and compatibility. This paper proposes a general digital model for memristors based on Taylor expansion and introduces a polynomial order determination method. Numerical simulations confirm that the proposed model exhibits three typical characteristics of memristors. Afterwards, a reconfigurable memristor simulator is developed based on FPGA. Finally, the simulator is embedded in a digital oscilloscope, and an interface is designed to display the hysteresis loop of the memristor. In addition, by online modification of the polynomial coefficients, the existing memristors can be simulated in the designed platform and the phase trajectory can be displayed with high accuracy.
