FPGA Implementation of Cryptography Using Reversible Logic Gates for Images

In VLSI, heat dissipation is of major concern, which can be reduced by using reversible logic gates in the implementation of the designs. Reversible computations have a broad range of applications in fields such as nanotechnology, low power CMOS, optical computing, digital image processing, etc. It is one among the important technique for low power designs. In today's world securing data is of great importance and to secure data cryptography is used. This paper focuses on image cryptography using Reversible Logic Gates (RLGs). The reason for including reversible gates into cryptography is that it gives much better energy efficiency than other conventional cryptographic systems. In this work an image cryptograpy design is implemeted using Reversible Logic Gates Cryptography Design (RLGCD), RLGCD is used for both encryption and decryption block. Reversible Linear feedback shift register (RLFSR) is used to generate key for the cryptographic system. Thereby implementing the cryptographic system using Reversible Logic Gates for encryption and decryption, and RLFSR for key generation, we intend to make the system secure with more power efficiency and also observed that there is not much distortion of image quality. Analysed the power efficiency of the RLFSR and conventional LFSR and there is great improvement in power efficiency for RLFSR and also the performance of the RLGCD is evaluated. The program is done in MATLAB and Xilinx Vivado.
