Super Twisting Sliding Mode Control of Small Scale Hybrid Renewable Energy Sources based Power Supply System

Electrical power supply systems based on hybrid renewable energy sources are gaining popularity in the modern world. Small scale power units typically use hybrid photovoltaic (PV) and PMSG-based wind power conversion technologies. A storage device should be employed to maintain power balance between generation and load in a standalone power supply system due to the fast changes in electrical power generation from both PV and wind. As a result, a battery bank can be used as an energy storage device to maintain power balance and manage the voltage at the dc-link. A PWM based three phase inverter is needed to interface between the dc-link and load bus in order to operate AC loads in distribution systems. To run inverters effectively and enhance the power quality at the AC load bus, a super twisting sliding mode control has been devised. In order to improve the suggested strategy, extensive results using a hardware-in-the-loop on the OPAL-RT platform are investigated in this study.
