An improved melting point detector algorithm for the determination of the melting point of crystalline chemical substances

The Automatic Digital Melting Point Apparatus is a key instrument in the pharmaceutical industry for determining the melting point of crystalline chemical substances. Our previous melting point detector algorithm employed change detection methods but had room for improvement. It relied on single pixel intensity values at specific locations in the chemical-filled capillary tube, which could produce inaccurate results if air bubbles were present. To address this issue, we developed an Improved Melting Point Detector (IMPD) algorithm that computes the intensity values of multiple pixels instead of just one. The IMPD algorithm solves the air bubble problem and provides more accurate results. We tested the IMPD algorithm on five crystalline chemical substances and achieved a maximum accuracy of 99.10% for magnesium nitrate and D-glucose.
