A Partitioned-IRS Assisted Transmit GSSK Scheme for Wireless Communication System

In this letter, we present a partitioned intelligent reflecting surface assisted transmit generalized space shift keying (PIRS-TGSSK) scheme, in which the IRS is divided into groups corresponding to the transmit antennas and the generalized space shift keying (GSSK) is used to improve spectral efficiency (SE). The theoretical average bit error rate (ABER) of the proposed scheme is derived, using the maximum likelihood (ML) detector. In order to achieve better ABER performance and SE, we further propose a partitioned intelligent reflecting surface assisted flexible generalized space shift keying (PIRS-FGSSK) scheme where the number of activated antennas is flexible in the data transmission. In addition, the computational complexity is also analyzed. Monte Carlo simulations show that the ABER performance has been significantly improved by partitioning the IRS. Moreover, the PIRS-FGSSK with the antenna selection method achieves better ABER and SE performance for the system.
