Demand Response Analysis of Industrial Consumers: A Brazilian Case

In the last two decades, the energy sector has experienced significant transformations motivated by challenging environmental goals, increasing reliability requirements and the need to produce energy efficiently and economically. In this sense, demand response emerges as a support instrument for the evolution of the energy market in Brazil and worldwide. However, regulatory and financial gaps limit the expansion of demand response programs. Then we survey regulatory scenarios that must be improved to promote the growth of demand response applications, and we propose a methodology to calculate the financial incentive necessary for a given company to make energy available to the system. The proposed methodology is a practical tool that allows companies to implement an initial assessment of the financial feasibility of participating in the Demand Response programs, providing subsidies for companies to visualize the resource as an economic opportunity.
