Battery and Supercapacitor-in-the-Loop testing using a hybrid power supply system and Typhoon HIL tools

The target of the study is to analyze the behavior of a hybrid power supply for electric vehicles based on supercapacitors and Lithium-Ion batteries. It is known that the link between the two is a bidirectional DC-DC power converter. In order to test the operational skills of such a system without the physical converter, initially a simulation program was designed using once an analytical approach and then a structural one using Typhoon HIL tools. Once the simulations performed correctly, two physical tests were approached: the Battery in the Loop (BIL) to test the real battery connected to the virtual system and then Supercapacitor in the Loop (SCIL) to test the supercapacitors linked to the virtual system. Testing the phenomenon and overlaying the results gives a clear picture of how both the real battery pack and the supercapacitors would work through a bidirectional converter.
