Performance Enhancement of DGS-Based WPT System Using Double Negative Metamaterial

This paper presents the development of the defected ground structure (DGS)-based wireless power transfer (WPT) system and its performance enhancement by incorporating the double negative metamaterial. Initially, the WPT system realization is achieved by coupling two identical DGS-based resonators operating at the medical band of 405 MHz. Afterward, the metamaterial possessing negative permittivity and permeability is designed. The obtained results demonstrate increased power transfer efficiency (PTE) up to 38.5% at the 50 mm distance with metamaterial placed in between resonators.
