Hybrid PO Method in Beam Tracing for Wireless Channel Simulation

Beam tracing (BT) method with Geometrical Optics (GO) theory are commonly used in wireless channel simulation. However, the GO method can only calculate the scattered field in the specular direction. In this paper, we make use of the phase information of the Physical Optics (PO) method in near field. The PO method is successfully embedded into the original BT and GO framework by regarding the illuminated region as a new transmitter. Due to the new paths brought by the hybrid PO method, it achieves a good improvement in the channel characteristics in comparison with the measured data.
