Modelling and Performance Analysis of Asymmetrical Triple Micro-optical Ring Resonator as an Optical Filter

Three asymmetrical rings-based micro-optical ring resonator (MORR) is designed here, having multi-output ports ($1 \times 2$). The mathematical modelling of the designed structure is done in the Z-domain using the delay line approach. Mason’s gain formula determines the transfer functions for various output buses. Frequency response studies are done in MATLAB. This structure yields a superior outcome with appreciable crosstalk, and its performance metrics, such as group delay and dispersion, are also graphically displayed. Optical communication has always needed a wider range of free spectral range (FSR) received through frequency response. Optisystem 18.0 simulates and designs a noise-free model using an eye diagram analyzer. This micro-optical model proposes an analytical approach to create higher-order filters using multiple rings and buses to meet the demand for wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) systems.
