Short-Circuit Turbine Generator Package: Functional and Operational Features

Short-circuit turbine generators are installed in the high-capacity laboratories of testing centers in order to test various electrical equipment and provide the necessary short circuit power. For testing high-capacity power electrical equipment, it is necessary to use short-circuit turbine generators operating in combination with auxiliary equipment: excitation system, variable frequency drive with induction motor, oil supply system for generator-motor unit, in-process monitoring and control system. As the operating conditions are considered to be very heavy in dynamic and temperature influence, in response time, the equipment comprising short-circuit generator package shall be designed and manufactured different to conventional. The article describes the main functions and main operating conditions of the short-circuit generator package and of each piece of equipment and system. As a rule test centers include several short-circuit generator packages which needs to operate together in certain conditions so a description of the diagram of synchronization and parallel operation of several short-circuit generators is proposed.
