Study of Skin Cancer Detection Using Images: A Literature Review

Skin cancer has become an important reason for human death in recent years. In the United States alone, the disease affects roughly three million people annually. As the disease progresses, the survival rate dramatically decreases. Because skin cancer extends slowly to various parts of the human body, it is easier to treat in its initial stages, so early detection is best. Due to its high mortality rate, rising incidence, and costly medical treatment, initial detection and symptoms of skin cancer are essential. Due to the severity of these issues, numerous initial skin cancer detection methods have been developed. Using skin images, parameters such as symmetry, colour, size, shape, and other features are utilized to differentiate melanoma, benign, and other types of skin cancer. As a result, the primary focus of this survey is on the various imaging-based approaches to skin cancer detection. This study employs twenty-five papers that concentrate on various techniques, and a survey of research technique-wise is provided. A thorough investigation is completed in view of the software utilized for the execution, and the performance achievement. The review examines a research task that is present in a literary study on skin cancer detection using images in order to support researchers in refining their work.
