Enhancing the Stability of Integrated Power System With Renewable Energy Through Advanced Controls

The emergence of power-electronic converter (PEC)-interfaced renewable energy sources (e.g., wind and solar) along with traditional power generation sources make the power system more complicated. The complexity can further challenge the system through the dominance of inverters-based resources at weak-grids, that Phase Locked Loop (PLL) of inverters can negatively impact in case of disturbance. This paper aims to enhance the stability of power system dominated by multi-inverters-based resources at weak grids by designing coordinated controllers. The proposed controller consists of the of Kalman Filter and Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) techniques. The controller has provided the PLL with sustainable stable reference during disturbances. Furthermore, it has damped oscillation among inverters in a short time frame. The results signify the capability of proposed controller for better reduction of the vulnerability of integrated renewable energy sources at weak grids compared with other technologies.
