Solar Powered Landslide Detection Using Global System Mobile (GSM) Communication

Landslides are a big disaster that occurs all over the world every year, killing thousands of people. It is also the second-worst disaster in terms of devastation. Despite the increased awareness of the landslide problem, there is still a shortage of technologies created to reduce the probability of landslide occurrence. Existing technologies are very complex as well as costly. The local government campaign did not do enough to raise knowledge about how to prepare for landslides and how to mitigate their effects. There are technologies to monitor landslide risk, as well as proposals for activities to address existing difficulties and challenges related to landslide risk. There is a shortage of technology in Malaysia when it comes to landslides, as well as restricted costs and resources. Therefore, this project will develop a Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) for landslide early warning system that will inform people to the possibility of a landslide so that they may take action and mitigate the damage. The methodology used in this project is a Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM), Arduino Uno, soil moisture sensor and gyro sensor, which are extremely useful in detecting the likelihood of landslides. The system efficacy and resilience were assessed throughout the project using a slope model and data collection. The system was test on the created slope model and the experimental result shows that the system was able to send an early warning of landslide via GSM based on the sensors detection. The objective of the project has been achieved and the project is working as planned.
