Isolated DC-DC Converter with Synchronous Rectification for Electric Vehicle Battery Charging

The chargers for Electric Vehicles (EVs) plays a vital role in the development of the EV industries. EVs hold great promise for significantly decreasing the environmental impact of automobile transportation. The EV chargers have an important unit as a DC-DC converter. This paper proposes a closed-loop control approach for a PSFB (phase-shifted full bridge) dc-dc converter operating under synchronous rectification for EV charging applications. To achieve high efficiency, PSFB with synchronous Rectification is preferred over conventional PSFB. Zero voltage switching (ZVS) is supported by the converter, which enables it to operate at high frequencies while also providing benefits such as a solution to slow charging and high efficiency. The parasitic capacitances of full bridge MOSFETS and the leakage inductor of the high-frequency transformer play a key role in achieving ZVS. A 48V Lithium Ion Battery has been used for the charging process and one PI controller has been implemented for CC (Constant Current) mode charging. The system is designed for 5.5 kW, and the analysis is carried out using MATLAB/Simulink software.
