Impact of Decarbonisation in the Energy Sector on Low-Voltage Distribution Networks

This paper examines the transformation of low-voltage distribution networks (LVDN) driven by the European Union's (EU) energy decarbonisation policies. The impact of the new generation is assessed through the concept of hosting capacity (HC). The drawbacks of the classical approach are discussed, and alternative approaches are reviewed. Engineering solutions to mitigate the negative impact of a new generation in LVDNs are discussed. Policies related to decarbonisation that are yet to be implemented are also covered.
