Stairs Count and Zebra Crossing Distance Estimation for Visually Impaired Individuals

Visually impaired individuals may face difficulty in identifying zebra crossings and determining the appropriate time to cross the road, leading to the risk of accidents. To address the difficulties faced by such individuals in navigating zebra crossings and staircases, a system has been proposed to count the number of lines in such scenarios. The system uses computer vision techniques to accurately detect and count the lines present, which can aid in determining the correct path to follow while crossing the road or climbing stairs. A system has been put forward in which the process consists of several image processing steps to prepare the image for analysis, then detecting the lines using edge and line detection algorithms. The count of stairs is obtained by analyzing the detected lines and identifying those that correspond to the staircase. The total distance the person must walk on zebra crossing can be determined by the system, empowering people to navigate independently.
